The New York City Guide was just the beginning!

I continue to be captivated by the entire American Guide Series published by the Federal Writers Project during the New Deal. Now that the New York City Guide is online, I would love to find a way to put all 100+ guides online in a similar way. (Published by the Federal Government, all the guides are understood to be in the public domain).

The hardest part of the original project was extracting the text and geocoding the individual locations, but I am confident there are some ways to automate and streamline much of that process today.

My goal is to have all the guides online and accessible from your phone (or its future equivalent!) by the 100th anniversary of the Federal Writers' Project on July 27, 2035.
